Jigsaw is a movie that was released on 26th October 2017. It is a continuation of the 'Saw' franchise that recently came to an end after the seventh movie. Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (who previously made movies such as Daybreakers and Undead), this movie falls into the Crime and Horror genres. It is a very violent movie and undoubtably has themes of gore, deranged and generally messed up. However, in correlation with this, parts of the movie focus more on the crime side. In comparison with a show like C.S.I. or N.C.I.S., there is hardly any difference between what the audience is getting at times. While trying to maintain their previous audience from Saw, the movie is clearly trying to broaden its marketing to reach some newer faces as the film looks to have been modernised a bit and puts emphasis on using a diverse range of actors from different backgrounds.  The plot has some major twists in it and is well-thought of, but the main focus on the film is the game...

Mother is a movie released in September 2017. It is directed and written by Darren Aranofsky who previously made The Wrestler and Noah. It is a very complex movie with a lot of twists and thought provoking story implications. Throughout the whole movie, the viewer is left second-guessing things and wondering how the movie will conclude. The genre can be considered drama, mystery and horror. It doesn't have many typical conventions of a genre. There is some tension and jump-scares in it, along with some blood and gory scenes. The big twist at the end mad the film very much worth watching and turned it into a true masterpiece. Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, two very well known film stars were both outstanding in this film. Javier Bardem proved what he can do in No Country for old Men and he exceeded that performance in this movie. Captain Fantastic is a movie that was made in 2016. Directed by Matt Ross, the film is very similar to films such as No country for Old Men and Winter's bone in a sense that you get the feeling that it is very raw. There are minimal effects and music, the whole movie is just based off of reality and emotion. The plot is very unique and intriguing as it is a taboo lifestyle to live outside of civilisation. The narrative left many blanks that we are never to find out, such as why the protagonist character, Ben ever wanted to live away from society and live such a different life. Relating to that, the ending is also very unrevealing as we do not come to any kind of happy ending type conclusion and we are left in what seems like the middle of an opening scene. Winter's bone is a popular American film made in 2010, directed by Debra Granik and starring Jennifer Lawrence. The film was very emotional and though-provoking throughout its entirety as it was so raw and cold-hearted. There were no special effects or CGI, the whole film was just pure tear-jerking content. The setting played a part in adding to this as since it was a winter environment, it made the film seem physically cold and somewhat uncomfortable to watch too. The film teaches it's viewers that love demands sacrifice and it is shown in raw detail when the protagonist character, Ree (Jennifer Lawrence) has to cut her dead father's arm off in the middle of a lake. Ree represented women well in this movie as she was portrayed as a strong, independent woman who can provide for her family alone. The Western is a typically American genre that is based off of its own historical context. The films are usually set in the late 18th century and are in the Western area of North America. They are usually filmed here too. This is because there is a lot of space here and it is cheap. More modern westerns sometimes break this trend by going into more urban areas. This is visible in No Country for Old Men. Western films tend to follow the trend of Cowboys vs Indians or West vs East. Although it has become a lot more complex than that now with more rivalries in motion. Some of which include Train vs Horse, community vs individual and culture vs nature.
